Educational Resources for Identifying, Reporting, and Preventing CSAE

3A. How to Identify CSAE

CSAE can manifest in various forms, but it generally involves the exploitation or abuse of children in ways that are harmful or inappropriate. Providing clear guidance on recognizing these behaviors is key to ensuring users can act swiftly and appropriately.

Types of CSAE to Identify
  • Explicit Content: Any material that involves sexual exploitation, abuse, or explicit imagery involving minors. This includes photos, videos, or text promoting sexual activities with children.
  • Grooming Behaviors: Grooming is when an adult builds a relationship with a child to gain trust with the intent of exploiting or abusing them later. This may include:
    • Requests for inappropriate photos or videos.
    • Manipulative or controlling conversations.
    • Pushing boundaries in communication (e.g., attempting to isolate a child from their parents or guardians).
  • Sexual Solicitation: Any requests, suggestions, or offers to engage in sexual activity with children.
  • Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM): Includes any form of media or content that shows children in sexualized contexts, either through images, videos, or online interactions.

3B. Signs of CSAE Behavior

  • Inappropriate language or interactions: If a child or young person is engaging in adult-like discussions or behaviors that are not age-appropriate.
  • Behavioral Red Flags: A child may exhibit signs of distress or secrecy, like withdrawing, being unusually protective of their digital space, or suddenly becoming too familiar with adults or peers online.
  • Unusual Requests: Requests for private or sensitive material, such as explicit photos or videos, especially from adults, are significant red flags.

3C. How to Prevent CSAE

Preventing CSAE involves both proactive and reactive measures. Here are key steps to help users prevent CSAE on Better Solver:

a. Education for Users
  • Age Verification: Ensure that all users are at least 13 years old before they join the platform, as outlined in our terms of service. Encourage users to be aware of their peers' ages and report anyone who appears to be underage.
  • Safe Communication Practices: We promote safe communication practices by encouraging users to:
    • Keep personal information private (e.g., address, phone number, social media profiles).
    • Avoid sending or accepting explicit content.
    • Use the platform’s privacy settings to control who can contact them or view their posts.
b. Content Moderation
  • Reporting System: We have a clear and simple reporting system for every post (Under More → Report post → It’s spam and It’s inappropriate) that allows users to report content that violates CSAE policies.
  • We do have a “Contact Us” section on the Home Page of the website and a “Feedback” option on the App under Profile → Settings → Feedback.
  • This can include:
    • Reporting inappropriate images, videos, or conversations.
    • Flagging suspicious user behavior (such as requests for explicit material or inappropriate contact).

4. Compliance with Laws

We comply with all relevant legal frameworks concerning child safety, including:

  • The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States.
  • The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as it applies to children in the European Union.
  • Local laws regarding child protection and digital safety in other jurisdictions.
